Hatch Botanic
24” x 36” Oil ink on paper, April 2024 Liz Cramer
This piece is so titled because it was printed in a gallery space at the famed Hatch Show Print in Nashville, TN, and contains several botanic subjects. It’s arranged in a triptych layout (3 panels) reminiscent of religious iconographic artifacts that would have two side panels that can be folded inward to cover the center panel (like a cabinet).
The image is created by carving the negative of the design out of solid MDF panels, applying ink to the panels, then running the panels through a large printing press to “stamp” the image onto paper. This piece was created as part of a workshop hosted by Big Ink who brought their large “Big Tuna” press to town for the printing process.
